The Basics of Copyright, Creative Commons, and Open Licensing
Are you seeking immediately available, freely accessible, high quality, professional resources for library services? Discover where to find troves of open licensed resources, and how Creative Commons powers legal access to information, media, cultural, and educational content!
The course starts with an overview of where to find open licensed resources to support library services such as: virtual storytimes, film screenings, discussion programs, digital literacy programs, K12 education, post-secondary education, media, cultural heritage, and citizen science efforts. Next, the course explores the history and focus of Creative Commons, as well as its foundation in copyright law. The course ends with case studies highlighting the broader social impact Creative Commons licensing can have on a global scale.
Whether you are new to copyright, want to learn more about Creative Commons, or are simply looking for high quality resources for your patrons, this course will provide clarity, context, and inspiration to get involved.
