Bring Out Your Dead: Using Death Records to Trace History and Genealogy Online

This training will show how death records such as obituaries, funeral home records, and cemeteries can be used to show the history of an area  and put meat on the bones of our ancestors.

 

Presenter: Selena Martinez is a Supervisory Librarian at the John F. Germany Public Library in downtown Tampa. She is the head of the Florida History & Genealogy Library held inside the John F. Germany Library. She got her Master’s in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Archival Management from Simmons University in 2021. She has six combined years of museum and library experience. She has had an internship at the Henry B. Plant Museum and worked as a docent for Cracker Country, the living history museum located on the Florida State Fairgrounds. She has always had a passion for historical materials.
